Course Guide Video

Faculty and instructors can use the Morrill Hall studio to record video clips that introduce them to students, provide background information on education and work experiences, and offer some personal information so students feel more connected. Video introductions provide students with important information they can use to make better choices about the courses they take and also offer a way to connect in a purely virtual environment.

The video introductions can be used in the following:
  • Course Guide
  • WebVista
  • Moodle
  • myU portal
  • UThink blogs
  • iTunes U
  • First episode of a podcast

Studio Capability

The Morrill Hall studio is designed for single-person, on-camera recordings. It has a set lighting scheme and a streamlined workflow.

Requesting Service

To request assistance from OIT video production staff, please fill out the request form.

For production requests, we require two weeks' notice in order to schedule personnel and equipment. Once your request is received, a technician will contact you to confirm times and details.

Preparing for Your Recording

You will want to draft a script before recording your video introduction. You can cover your qualifications, including education, work experience, and background. You might also take the opportunity to offer a bit of personal information, though still within professional parameters. For instance, you can share why you enjoy teaching, the current issues you find interesting in your field, or describe your teaching style. Ideally, your video introductions should be between two and five minutes long.

If you would like assistance in developing your script and outline please contact the Office of Information Technology's Digital Media Center at dmc@umn.edu or (612) 625-5055 (Minneapolis office) or (612) 625-8030 (St. Paul office).
