About VoIP
VoIP is a general term for a type of technology that delivers voice communications over the Internet or other packet-switched networks. VoIP can help reduce infrastructure costs by using existing data networks to transfer data.
A VoIP communication infrastructure allows OIT to provide voice services to University locations that are unsupported by traditional telephone service. It allows places such as Rochester, Arboretum, Extension Services, and other off-site locations to share infrastructural resources.
